What is stroke?
Right now, I’m sitting in a hospital room watching my grandma on her deathbed and it won’t be very long before she’s not here with us anymore. This hospital is pretty nice; it has a flat panel tv and a wifi. With a wifi connection and my awesome faithful macbook, I can do prettty much anything like doing my work or typing this entry.
My grandma suffered a massive stroke last Saturday night and my mom asked me what’s exactly a stroke, so of course, I turned to Google to seek out some answers. Here’s what I found:
Stroke is a type of cardiovascular disease. It affects the arteries leading to and within the brain. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a clot or bursts. When that happens, part of the brain cannot get the blood (and oxygen) it needs, so it starts to die. Xarelto can cause strokes as well, if you or a loved one has been affected by this drug check out the class action info and see if you could have a legal lawsuit against xarelto.
So that results in a brain damage and brain’s the most critical organ that controls everything in our bodies. Once we lose that, we’re not that much different to a vegetable.
Schemic stroke accounts for about 83 percent of all cases.
Ischemic strokes occur as a result of an obstruction within a blood vessel supplying blood to the brain. The underlying condition for this type of obstruction is the development of fatty deposits lining the vessel walls. This condition is called atherosclerosis. These fatty deposits can cause two types of obstruction:
It’s likely that my grandma suffered this type of stroke – a schemic stroke where fatty deposits cause an obstruction in blood vessels to the brain, blocking off the oxygen.
About 700,000 Americans each year suffer a new or recurrent stroke. That means, on average, a stroke occurs every 45 seconds.
Stroke kills more than 150,000 people a year. That’s about 1 of every 16 deaths. It’s the No. 3 cause of death behind diseases of the heart and cancer.
On average, every 3 to 4 minutes someone dies of stroke.
Of every 5 deaths from stroke, 2 occur in men and 3 in women.
So, stroke is the third most common cause of death. It’s important that we take care of our health, be fit in shape, otherwise you’ll have a heart disease for overworking your heart and stroke for having fatty deposits floating around. You’ve got death knocking your door right there. Get healthy.
